1. World Malaria Day
As we celebrate the World Malaria Day tomorrow, April 25, we must recognise the need for sufficient global commitment and investment if we are to win the fight against malaria.

2. PAA meeting in San Diego
The Annual Meeting of the Population Association of America (PAA) in San Diego starts next week from April 29 to May 2, 2015.
On April 29, a member of the INDEPTH Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC), Dr Cheikh Mbacké, (right) who has been selected by theInternational Union for the Scientific Study of Population (IUSSP) Council as the 2015 IUSSP Laureate will be honoured.
Dr Mbacké is being honoured in particular for his contributions to research in the area population and health policies and his invaluable support to the emergence of a community of African population researchers.

3. Paper on Population-based HIV surveillance
A paper titled “Participation Dynamics in Population-Based Longitudinal HIV Surveillance in Rural South Africa” has just been published.

4. TEG Postgraduate Training Fellowship in Medical Statistics for African Scientists
This fellowship, which is funded by the UK Medical Research Council (MRC), provides support for two years training in medicalstatistics. For the first year the successful applicant will study for the MSc degree in Medical Statistics at the London School of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (LSHTM). This will be followed by a one-year professional attachment at one of the African centres associated with the research programme of the Tropical Epidemiology Group (TEG) at LSHTM. During the professional attachment, training Fellows will develop their statistical and research skills by working on studies with guidance from TEG staff.

5. INDEPTH Scientific Conference registration opens
Registration for this year’s INDEPTH Scientific Conference (ISC 2015) is now open. The conference will be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from November 11 – 14, 2015. It is on the theme “Health and Demographic Research to Inform the Post-2015 Development Agenda”.
