1.  Africa's demographic future: why Africa should take the lead – INDEPTH ED shares his opinion
The Executive Director of the INDEPTH Network, Prof Osman Sankoh, has expressed his opinion on “Africa's demographic future: why Africa should take the lead” in The Lancet Global Health.

He notes among others that “An African-led response to population change might begin with efforts to establish the size of the population Africa wants, in the context of broader developmental ambitions. Rather than being dictated by fears in developed countries of mass emigration, conflict, and environmental destruction, such a strategy would be based on the needs of African people.” Read more
2.  Interactive Ebola map now available
Updates to the zoonotic niche map of Ebola virus disease in Africa.
The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) paper titled "Updates to the zoonotic niche map of Ebola virus disease in Africa" has been published in eLife.  In addition to the paper, the team now has its first interactive online visualization tool on the IHME website.

" The visualization tool provides an important way for various end users to engage and interrogate these updated maps," explains the paper's lead author Dr. David Pigott, an Assistant Professor at IHME.  Read more:

1. icddr,b studies contribute to global dengue control and prevention efforts
The Aedes has distinctive black and white stripes.
icddr,b scientists are participating in an eight-country study aiming to identify simple methods to spot dengue infections, which are hard to diagnose from clinical symptoms alone and can be fatal if diagnosed too late.

2.  #AIDS2016: Cutting-edge study to help young women
As young women continue to bear the brunt of new HIV infections, it can’t be business as usual when it comes to HIV prevention.

This is the thinking behind the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s Africa Centre for Population Health research which is seeking to incentivise men for testing and initiation on to antiretroviral treatment (ART).
