1. New INDEPTH paper
A training manual for event history data management using HDSS data
 iSHARE training session in progress.
The objective of this research note “A training manual for event history data management using Health and Demographic Surveillance System data” is to introduce a training manual for event history data management. The manual provides a first comprehensive guide to longitudinal Health and Demographic Surveillance System (HDSS) data management that allows for a step-by-step description of the process of structuring and preparing a dataset for the calculation of demographic rates and event history analysis. The research note provides some background information on the INDEPTH Network, and the iShare data repository and describes the need for a manual to guide users as to how to correctly handle HDSS datasets. 2. INDEPTH Endowment Fund
The INDEPTH Network is seeking funds to endow its Resource & Training Centre and finance its Scientific, Capacity Strengthening, Policy Engagement and Management Activities. As you might recall, earlier this year we developed a flier for the Fund which we appealed to you to circulate to your networks be it individuals or institutions. We have now done a French translation of the same (attached) which we again ask for your help in circulating widely.

3. PEC manager leaving INDEPTH
David Mbulumi
Our PEC manager David Mbulumi is leaving the Network at the end of June 2017 to pursue other interests. This is part of what the Executive Director, Prof. Osman Sankoh had to say: “It is sad that David is leaving us while his services are needed even more. David has been very instrumental in developing and the implementation of our Policy Engagement and Communication strategy. We have achieved so much in this area during his time with us. He will be greatly missed. We wish him all the best in his future endeavours.”

 Nouna HDSS:
Household cereal crop harvest and children’s nutritional status in rural Burkina Faso
Dr. Ali Sie, Nouna Centre Leader (one of the paper’s authors)
Under-nutrition is one of the Sustainable Development Goals for 2030. Achievement of this goal may be made more difficult in some settings by climate change through adverse impact on agricultural productivity. However, there is only limited quantitative evidence on the link between household crop harvests and child nutrition. In this study “Household cereal crop harvest and children’s nutritional status in rural Burkina Faso”, researchers examined this link in a largely subsistence farming population in rural Burkina Faso.
