2) AHRI: Safe water supplies radically reduce parasitic infection among South African children
The increased supply of safe water in a rural South African community has significantly reduced the chances of children contracting a parasitic disease. This is according to new research by Africa Health Research Institute (AHRI) scientists, published in eLife.
The study, carried out in a community in rural KwaZulu-Natal, demonstrated that increased provisions of safe water over a period of seven years have led to an eight-fold decrease in the risk of children becoming infected with urogenital schistosomiasis, also known as bilharzia. This impact is substantially greater than previous results have suggested. Read more

4) Navrongo HDSs: NAMRU 3 & US Biofire Defense to collaborate with NHRC
A team of scientists from The U.S. Naval Medical Research Unit-No. 3 (NAMRU-3), Ghana detachment and the US Biofire Defense company have visited the NHRC to discuss the prospects of conducting a new study titled Prospective Clinical Evaluation of the FilmArray® Global Fever (GF) Panel. Read more

Despite myriad targets and 17 inter-related goals, the 2030 Sustainable Development agenda has, at its core, a single prevailing ambition: to invest wisely in ensuring that no one is left behind in the race to achieve growth. And central to this ambition is keeping people of all backgrounds, ages and creeds, healthy, alive and able to contribute productively to their homes, their communities and their societies as a whole.
