Senior Malaria Epidemiologist
CISM – Manhiça Health Research Centre, Mozambique
The Manhiça Health Research Centre (CISM), based in Manhiça, Maputo Province, is seeking to recruit one (01) Senior Epidemiologist to strengthen its research portfolio with a particular focus on malaria. The successful candidate will lead and coordinate scientific studies and projects across the full research cycle, from field and laboratory activities to data analysis and report writing while actively contributing to staff and trainee mentorship and capacity building.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate scientific studies and projects across the full research cycle
- Develop innovative research ideas and coordinate proposal development
- Provide technical and scientific review of proposals and manuscripts
- Supervise research activities and staff at project level
- Conduct field visits and participate in meetings with authorities
- Mentor staff and trainees to build capacity and advance institutional mission
- Manage publication processes for scientific congresses and seminars
- Ensure effective communication with funders, partners, and stakeholders
Required Qualifications
- PhD in Medicine, Epidemiology, Public Health, Health Sciences, Biostatistics, or related fields (minimum 5 years)
- Extensive experience in epidemiological surveillance and analysis of communicable diseases
- Experience with malaria, bacterial, viral, or neglected tropical diseases is an advantage
- Proven competence in data analysis using STATA, R, SAS, or similar software
- Experience in study coordination, recruitment, and clinical data collection
- Strong publication record in peer-reviewed scientific journals
- Leadership and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work in high-pressure, productivity-oriented environments
Desired Skills
- Fluency in English and Portuguese is an advantage
- Life or work experience in resource-limited or rural settings
- Ability to think and act strategically
- Proven ability to manage large and complex workloads under tight deadlines
- Exceptional skills in epidemiological analysis and application to decision-making
