Education here refers to or is defined as attendance at regular educational institutions (e.g.
Primary, Commercial School, Secondary School, Islamic school, etc), where at least 4 hours of
tuition is offered a day. It excludes night schools, trade schools and training on the job. The lower
age limit of formal education intake is usually 6 years for primary. However, the eligibility for this
question on school attendance is lowered to 3 years of age because of the pre- school education,
which is now common. In other words, the question on education should be asked of all persons in
the household aged 3 years or more.
If the individual has been to school, the number of years he/she has completed at the highest level
attained should be recorded (qualification). If still in school at the time of enumeration, the number
of completed years of schooling should be indicated.
