The INDEPTH Executive Director, Prof Osman Sankoh on 28th July 2017 launched a new project titled “Strengthening quality of malaria care and surveillance in Ghanaian communities.” The project is funded by Comic Relief/GSK over a period of 36 months. Prof Sankoh reiterated that the title of the project was in line with what the Ghanaian authorities themselves have been seeking to do. The project will be carried out in three regions in Ghana: Upper East Region in the Kassena Nankana district; Brong Ahafo Region in Kintampo district and Greater Accra Region; Shai- Osudoku and Ningo-Prampram districts. INDEPTH’s member centres in Ghana, Navrongo, Kintampo and Dodowa HDSSs will implement the project in their respective regions. The project will also collaborate with the National Malaria Control Programme (NMCP), the main entity that controls malaria in Ghana, in addition to other stakeholders. The project aims to accelerate the reduction of malaria burden among children under 10 years and pregnancy women in rural communities through a package of a) access to quality malaria care at the community; b) improved knowledge among malaria care providers; c) enhanced community demand for quality malaria care and d) quality malaria data for decision making.
