The data manager will be responsible for ensuring that data collected from DSS are accurately
processed and entered into a database. He/she will ensure availability of the data to all other staff
in a wide range of formats. His or her responsibilities include:
- Designing data entry programs, including validation programs;
- Database design, programming and maintenance;
- Design and production of formatted and ad hoc demographic reports;
- Documenting all applications developed, e.g. data dictionaries, data entry guides, etc.;
- Provide field staff with regular round outputs;
- Attend field staff meetings;
- Training of data entry clerks on instruments and software system.
The ideal candidate must be a team player, of good integrity, and ready to work long hours when
necessary. Data entry staff should also be subjected to both written and practical tests to assess
their knowledge of DSS concepts, computing skills, typing speed and accuracy. Based on their
performance, those who excel should be contracted. The practical test should involve hands-on
experience. A few should be kept on reserve to serve as replacements if those contracted opt out
later.
