Dr. Fred Arnold

Dr. Fred Arnold is a Senior Fellow at ICF International and Technical Deputy Director of The Demographic and Health Surveys Program. He is a demographer and survey specialist with over 40 years of professional experience providing technical assistance in survey implementation and analysis in low- and middle-income countries. Dr. Arnold is responsible for setting the overall technical direction for The DHS Program and coordinating the design of DHS questionnaires. He has been directly involved in the design and implementation of population-based surveys in 16 countries in Asia, Africa, and South America. He has been the survey manager for four National Family Health Surveys in India, with a combined sample size of 861,000 households. He has published more than 150 books, journal articles, and reports on various topics, including malaria; nutrition; gender preferences for children; family planning; fertility; child mortality; international migration; maternal, newborn and child health, and survey methods.
