INDEPTH ED attends two important meetings in Germany

The Executive Director of the INDEPTH Network, Prof Osman Sankoh, participated in two important activities in Germany from 30 May to 2 June 2016.

The first one was the NUTRI-SCOPE proposal development meeting at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research.

He later proceeded to the Institute for Clinical Biometry and Epidemiology at University Hospital in Hamburg. 

The University Hospital and INDEPTH are collaborating in the conduct of relevant epidemiological studies and analyses of available data from HDSS centres pooled by INDEPTH in various areas.

During his presentation in Hamburg titled “The INDEPTH Network, Potentials for Research Collaboration in Epidemiology and Clinical Research,” Prof. Sankoh introduced the Network from the coverage of INDEPTH across Africa, Asia and Oceania; the HDSS activities and the expansion over the years also how HDSSs operate and their outputs.

 The INDEPTH Executive Director also elaborated on the potential for HDSS to contribute towards strengthening Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS).

He also talked about the INDEPTH research strategy, the structuring of science and cause of death data.

In addition, Prof. Sankoh used the occasion to explain INDEPTH Strategic areas: Capacity Strengthening and Training, Policy Engagement and Communication and the Comprehensive Health and Epidemiological Surveillance System (CHESS) innovation that will link demographic, mortality, morbidity, clinical, laboratory and household data.

The ED was accompanied by DrMamusuKamanda who heads the Scientific Research and Co-ordination at INDEPTH.
