Ebola Preparedness workshop

The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, in partnership with INDEPTH Network, will be hosting an Ebola workshop on February 25th and 26th at the Mensvic Grand Hotel, East Legon, Accra, Ghana. The workshop is funded by the Paul Allen Family Foundation. We are expecting and financing the attendance of approximately 70 key stakeholders and decision makers from 22 countries at risk of Ebola to attend the workshop.

The purpose of this meeting is to present our research on the geographical distribution in Africa of the zoonotic niche for Ebola virus, and convey to key stakeholders how to use our interactive maps to locate areas at risk of zoonotic overspill.

We hope this will promote

(1) an appreciation that overspill is possible in those countries that have never had an outbreak and
(2) perhaps some additional testing of the animal reservoir in these countries.

Importantly, participants will also have the opportunity to discuss preparedness planning to improve early detection and effective response to Ebola virus disease in their country. We view this as facilitating a conversation between those present with the relevant experience to share plans and information, and in addition, develop their network. We are currently putting together the invitees and want people with relevant experience that are happy to share to attend.

Please contact Mr Titus Tei (titus.tei@indepth-network.org) as soon as possible to assist with your travel. We will be responsible for your accommodation costs and will provide a modest per diem to cover incidental expenses.
